Techtalk to nontech clients

Sometimes there can be a world of difference between a web designer and their clients, but when someone comes along who wants a website built, but knows absolutely nothing about the technical side, it can be very difficult for the designer to get the message across and more importantly getting the contract.

There are some very ways that a tekkie can talk to a non tekkie; here are some ideas for you:

Get an estimate of their computing/technological expertise.

Don’t underestimate a person’s knowledge.

Use actual examples.

Keep an emphasis on the bottom-line.

Keep it simple.

Encourage questions.

Talk using familiar analogies.

Be yourself.

In general there would need to be balance that can be found, but essentially there is a need for both parties to communicate on a level that both parties feel comfortable with.
