Nine years for spammer
There was a time when sending the odd speculative email to people was the done thing, but this soon got out of hand when the spammers began to take the email system over, but who would have thought that by doing this you would end up in jail!
Well that is what has happened to Jeremy Jaynes from North Carolina in the US has been handed a nine year prison sentence after being convicted of spamming. But he was only charged with one instance of spamming over a two month period in 2003, where it is estimated that he sent millions of emails.
There are some lessons to be learned from this case, but it is doubtful that many of these cases will pop up because of the huge up roar that sending unsolicited emails causes and the simple fact that most of the spam sent out these days come from places that do not have any laws or rules regarding spam and so this menace will continue, despite filtering etc.
